Google doing SEO!?
Apparently when Google acquired Doubleclick last week they included Performics, an SEO company.
Google doesn’t plan to get rid of Performics - so they are now officially competing with all other SEO’s to help people rank on… ummmm… their search engine.
Nice one, Google.

Yeah, it’s kind of nuts that Google is buying an SEO company. I’m watching Eric Schmidt’s interview on YouTube right now ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxzDU3tTzGA ) where Battelle asked about Performics and what Google’s plans are for it. He kind of did the politically correct thing and just said he didn’t know what they’re going to do with it and moved on.
I’m guessing they will either sell it, or spin off the SEO part of that business and sell that. I think they wanted everything else Doubleclick has, and Performics just came as part of the deal. I can’t imagine Google offering SEO services.

Dave,
I certainly hope that for your good and mine that Google eventually spins it off or significantly modifies their model - doesn’t seem right for SEO’s to have to compete with a search engine itself.
