Text Link Ads
Disclosure: This is a paid review. I have elected not to interrupt the user experience on this site with adsense ads, but occasionally I will review a product or service related to the internet marketing or internet retail industry.
A few months ago I wrote about Feedvertising, another way to monetize your blog by inserting ads into your rss feed. If you are reading this post in a feed reader you probably see an “ad” for the Phoebus 3g router - this uses the Feedertising service from Text Link Ads, but it is not a paid ad. This is just an especially cool product from Sewell that I chose to put in as the default ad.
Building quality backlinks is an important part of any SEO campaign - that’s just SEO 101. The bigger (and more difficult) question is how do you build links? To be honest I think this is the most difficult aspect of SEO but I also feel it is the most important so I spend a lot of time doing it.
I meet a lot of want-to-be SEO’s who tell me how link renting doesn’t work. Nothing could be farther from the truth. It is true that you need to be careful when renting links and that this shouldn’t be the only source of your backlinks, but anybody who tells me that renting backlinks doesn’t work simply hasn’t tried it (or just doesn’t know which links to rent).
I have found TLA’s a great resource for finding relevant, high-quality backlinks. I have even been pleasantly surprised by the volume of direct traffic some of these links have driven to one of my clients - a good sign that I purchased the right links.
If you own your own website(s) text link ads is a great monetization tool. Between my “Subscribe” section (on the right) and the ad for Kiva (a cool non-profit) you will see some links related to internet retail or internet marketing.
I like this form of ads because they don’t interrupt the user experience. I simply put some code on my site, Text-link-ads sells the ads and they automatically show up. For this service they take half the revenue. It sounds like a lot but considering the network of advertisers they have available it is well worth it to me.
I currently run about 10 sites which have some form of monetization in place - a mixture of affiliate programs, adsense and TLA’s. I don’t mind telling you that I make more of off Text-Link-Ads than the other sources and it is much more consistent.
If you have any questions about Text-Link-Ads or any other form of website monetization feel free to ask me.

Renting backlinks defiantly does work for SEO, it actually works very well! But the links have to be placed on relevant sites with high PR and for at least 2 months, else you will probably be wasting your money and for the price of Text Link Ads links this is not something you want to be doing.

Yes, I agree - one of the mistakes that many beginners make is thinking that the links are going to provide an immediate benefit but in my experience it usually takes 4-6 months to see the real benefit.

I have read that google isn’t fond of rented links and it will hurt you on their algorhythms… Is this true?

The spelling of “algorhythms” leads me to believe that I shouldn’t bother answering this question
hahah, jk. Seriously, though, yes, google officially doesn’t condone renting links. If you don’t know what you’re doing I would either have somebody who does do it or read up a bit more on not triggering the spam filter.
