Wikipedia adds “nofollow” to links
I know this is old news but wanted to give my apologies to all of my friends who rely on spam links from wikipedia to SEO their sites - the party is over. Or is it? In my opinion it seems that yahoo doesn’t even care about nofollow tags when ranking sites - so it’s no google traffic but I think wikipedia is still worth spamming for some people for the amount of traffic the links themselves produce and the potential to do better on a few of the engines.

It’s strange to say that wikipedia is “worth spamming” if you’re really spamming it the link will be removed pretty quick. It’s kind of a short term investement with little payoff.

Dan, dan - so young, so naive… spamming wikipedia is really easy (and most of the people that work within 10 feet of you do it to some degree). You simply make an informational page (no ads, no call to action), then filter the PR you earn off of the wikipedia backlink to other pages on your site that you want to rank well in the engines. It’s pretty easy to do and people have been doing it for years.
